This pen is a good size, the wood is so incredibly dark you can’t really see any grain. Writes nice. I wish I’d known the standard ink cartridges I had wouldn’t fit in this pen before I tried jamming one on. Not sure I did the pen any favors. Still, it writes well and the cap sits pretty well on the end while writing. The Black Ebony Wood fountain pen (with an Extra Fine nib) looks gorgeous, feels great to hold and writes VERY smooth. This pen is a big “yes !” for yourself and/or as an IMPRESSIVE gift. The fit and finish on this pen is top notch, especially considering the price. The nib is larger than other hongdian that I have and is beautifully black. The engraving is also very precise on the nib and barrel. The writing is also very smooth, because this is a F, it’s smoother than the hongdian 525 that I regularly use. It’s still very fine comparing western counterparts, I’d say western EF. Nib is smooth and lays down a fair amount of ink. Writing experience is superbOne star is knocked off because it’s not 100% sealed. I inked this with a iron gall ink (R&K scabiosa) and after more than 24-36 hours of not using, the pen experiences a dry start, may have to shake it a bit for the feed to start flowing. This especially apparent when the pen is stored nib up. The ink is noticeably drier and darker during dry start. This could be the ink but very unlikely, I will try other ink that’s more forgiving/lubricating and “wetter”The weight and responsiveness of this pen is first rate. I know many may feel more comfortable with a heavier instrument but for me, writing has always been painting in words. I always used a fountain pen in school. Ball points were ugly, crude and useless. They took the soul out of the written word. I never use them. This pen is a fine writing instrument. Load it with the right ink, use it on the right paper. It will serve you well. The pen measures 139.4mm x 15mm and weights 26g. The cap and barrel is made of wood so the feel is different than pens made of resin or metal (different feel is good as I love collecting pens of all different material). The smooth finish on the wood makes the pen a bit slippery but still easy to hold well during writing. The clip size is normal and functional. The cap takes about 3 rotations to open or close and feels quite smooth. During usage, the cap can be posted on the pen or removed. The dark grey (or black based on lighting) nib writes quite well (I've selected the extra fine nib) - writing sample attached. Overall, the pen is a solid choice for a daily carry pen for anyone.I really wanted to like this pen. It is very attractive to look at and comfortable to hold. However, it dried up all the time. Before, after, and even during use. After a month or so, the threads on the inside of the cap started disintegrating to the point where I eventually couldn't keep the cap on the pen because the threads were stripped. This was not due to over-tightening, since I was careful about that. One of the reasons why I bought a fountain pen was to avoid dumping so many pens into landfills but, unfortunately, that is this pen's destination too.The entire line of the HongDian in extra fine writes great. I have several. Ink flows even, lines are well defined and actually "extra fine". I use Waterman ink in the converter. Ink does not clog or skip in this pen. The pen feels good in my hand and is great looking.I was looking for a pen with a fine nib, and this seemed reasonable. It is well made with good grooves for screwing the body and cap together. It will obviously take a little time to break the pen in, but so far it has done very well. I thought that it would be scratchy and irregular, but it flows very nicely and I like the larger diameter of the pen. One touch that I thought was very nice is that there is a ball inside the piston Ink reservoir which should help with ink flow and refilling. This is a great purchase if you like very fine nibs. I wish I could remember to post back in a month and see if I feel the same.I'm not sure why there are any negative reviews here. This is one of the finest pens I have ever owned. It works perfectly well, feels comfortable, and starts straight off every time you pick it up to write. With such an even, smooth flow throughout use, I can write all day with it without tiring. I love it. It makes me want to write!I don't know if this is what I should expect from this company, but the cap had hairline cracks that continues to crack open.marche très mal je l'ai renvoyé et plume EF équivaut à FÉlégant et léger.
