I have several fountain pens, which include fountain pens from the Soviet Era, pens from Cross, Parker, Sheaffer, Pilot, an Indian pen, and a small collection of Chinese pens. I like all my pens, but I gravitate toward pens which are akin to the Sonnet, because I like the shape and character of this pen, but I prefer to use a less expensive model for day to day requirements, such as note taking and exams. However, as any self-respecting fountain pen aficionada, from time to time, I peek at other pens on the market and occasionally buy one. After weeks of consideration, I bought this Yiren 679. This pen appears unlike the majority of my other pens. This pen has flat ends giving it some resemblance to a Parker Duofold in metal. The nib looks like the nib of a Jinhao 250. This pen has a snap on cap. The cap posts very securely, if one is inclined. It is comfortable and feels well balanced. The fit and finish gives the appearance of a far more expensive pen. After I received the pen, I washed the disassembled pen in room temperature water with a few drops of dish soap in order to remove any residue of manufacturing oil or detritus. I dried and reassembled the pen. The nib and feed are friction fit. I suspect that most problems people experience with their pens is failure to prep the pen prior to use. There are tutorials on YouTube to help. Also know that the pen is only part of the writing experience. Characteristics of ink and quality of paper are also important factors to be aware of. NB. This pen does not come with a box and it does not come with ink. It will use standard international cartridges or bottled ink. This allows for a wide range of colours. After I reassembled the pen, I drew Waterman Serenity Blue ink into the converter and wrote – and wrote – and wrote. It writes with a wet, a little finer than medium line. There is some little positive feedback, but not at all unpleasant. It is a pure joy. This pen is very impressive. It does not look or act like a 6USD pen. It looks and writes like a pen much more expensive than it is. I like this pen very, very much. If there were more stars to give, I would give them. I do not think that there is anything not to like about this pen. This one I shall keep.
